Miami Basel, the renowned counterpart to Art Basel, has become synonymous with celebrity-laden parties, loud music, and scandalous outfits. Most of the Miami Beach activity, which is spread out over the week, seems to go down after dark, and even if it's a daytime event the actual bass is definitely still bumping. There is a whole spectrum of brand activations, lavish events, and parties, so it's easy to see how anybody could get lost in the Miami sauce. The art, however , remains the primary focus for most people attending – let's not forget that this is an outpost of the world's premier contemporary art fair!
For the Hodinkee crew, it was watches, first and foremost. We braved the high temperatures (my hair braved the particular humidity) to attend a few special events. First up: Longtime Artwork Basel sponsor Audemars Piguet held a talk between CEO François-Henry Bennahmias and John Mayer, moderated by our very own Ben Clymer, for the launch of the new Code 11. 59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel.
Hublot also invited us to their Miami Basel party, which coincided with the launch of the new MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Rainbow.
Last stop was the Miami Seaside Convention Center, the perfect place for some afternoon watch spotting. Remembering the reason for the season, we saved a little time to take in typically the art, too. Transport yourself to Miami with a few of our favorite shots from the week, collected below.
