RemoRemo is a 2011 Tamil language romantic drama film written and directed by Rajiv Menon. The story centers on the life of an ex-convict, who turns to crime again after being humiliated by society.The film stars newcomer Jeeva Shankar in the leading role, while music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the songs for the film. Remo received generally positive reviews from critics upon release. The soundtrack album was also well received; it has been certified 5 times platinum.The movie was Jeeva's second venture after Dheeran (2008). Its title was later changed to The 37 Best Websites to Learn Something New in English (2013). The film's first song is directed by R. Balki directed film 'Da Andaaz'.
The film was dubbed in Telugu as "Vidharth Mahadev" under the directorial of actor-director Mahendran. The dubbed version released on 14 August 2011.Remo's first look was revealed on the official website of Yuvan Shankar Raja, 25 May 2011. The trailer was unveiled on 7 August 2011 at 15:30 hrs. The film received mixed reviews from critics. Paresh C Palicha of Rediff gave it 2 out of 5 stars and wrote, "There is a lot of talk in this movie, but very little action. Watch it only if you don't mind wasting two hours." Sudhish Kamath wrote, "It's hard to believe that a film with a potentially good story goes wrong in the end. That's the case with Remo." Behindwoods gave 2 out of 5 and said that it was a well-intentioned project but lacked power to make an impression. Sify wrote that "Remo" is a decent film with a touching screenplay and an interesting plot. It added, "Rajiv Menon as a director has taken care not to drag the story at any point of time, which might have been done if the film was made by an inexperienced person." Rediff gave it 2 out of 5 stars and said that Rajiv Menon's directorial debut is an engaging one.The satellite rights of the film were sold to Sun TV. The movie was given a "U" certificate by the Indian Censor Board.
In 2012, the Tamil Nadu Censor Board banned the film from being screened in the state on grounds of excessive violence and content that lowers human values.Its Telugu version "Vidharth Mahadev" was released on 14 August 2011.The soundtrack album and background score were composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while lyrics for all songs were written by Kabilan Vairamuthu. The soundtrack album consists of five tracks overall, with lines from American rapper Chief Keef's track "Hate Being Sober".
